Today in History: Uganda Joins First International Day of the Girl Child Observance

The inaugural observance was held under the theme “Ending Child Marriage”, drawing attention to the barriers that prevent girls from accessing education, enjoying their rights and reaching their full potential. The day sought to mobilise governments, civil society organisations and communities to address child marriage and other forms of discrimination and violence against girls.
