MLB proposes 154-game season with radical ‘pick your opponent’ playoff twist
Major League Baseball has proposed a major change to its schedule and playoff format, with the regular season potentially dropping from 162 games to 154 and higher seeds being allowed to pick their postseason opponents. The proposals were tabled during MLB’s latest collective bargaining talks with the MLB Players Association and could bring a very different look to the sport from 2027 onwards.
